ome quotes should just not be paraphrased. Take, for example, this line from an email we received about Grammy-winning artist and composer Peter Kater: “People are invited to lay under his piano while he plays to get the full experience from another sensory perspective.” This is something you won’t find at most Elton John, Norah Jones, or even Coldplay shows. Kater has had a dozen albums nominated in the Grammys’ New Age category, and finally won the damn thing earlier this year. A former Boulder resident who now lives in Maui, he was a regular performer at the Hotel Boulderado and could occasionally be found doing improvisational performances with beat poet Allen Ginsberg. Since then, he has released more than 70 albums, received an environmental leadership award from the United Nations, and had his orchestral works performed at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. All of which gives his performance at this comparatively intimate venue additional event status, from whatever angle you happen to experience it.
