Over Easy is just one part of a big breakfast family

Now in its fifth year, this Rocky Mountain Restaurant Group-owned “daytime eatery” has expanded to five locations, including a recent Powers and Dublin branch, as well as two same-menu-different-name Urban Egg spots in Highlands Ranch and Fort Collins, with a third due to open on Denver’s East Belleview Avenue this year.

Downtown, we stop by for a cappuccino ($3.99), made from fair-trade Barista espresso beans. It gets a B overall, the espresso bearing burnt notes under an off-textured foam. We go for a Peace, Love & Pancakes flight ($9.49), picking a Fred’s Hawaiian, a Colorado Blueberry Streusel, and a New York Cheesecake take. All three rank as sugar bombs. The first gets sweet pineapple chunks, toasted coconut, vanilla créme Anglaise and cinnamon butter. The blueberry streusel cakes arrive under streusel, lemon honey butter and blueberry-infused maple syrup. Both beg for more fruit or acidity. The cheesecake bears a pleasantly spiced strawberry compote, with cheesecake baked in for creaminess, the most interesting of the three.
