Describe the cultural climate of this town. Colorado Springs is provincial, but if you stay on the lookout and you're willing to work at finding them, a few good things come here.
Describe your ideal Colorado Springs. We'd all work together to build beautiful buildings in a way that harmonizes with the landscape, instead of big boxes on big roads. We need some controls on development.
What's the coolest thing about the Springs? The beautiful landscape, the blue skies, Cheyenne Cañon Park, the mountains, the fall leaves.
What's the biggest turnoff? The evangelical Christians wanting everyone to think the way they do.
What's the best place you've ever lived? Culturally, Portland, Oregon, wins hands down. There's always something happening. Development is carefully controlled, and that's worked very much to the advantage of their inner city and made it beautiful. But they don't have our weather and outdoors.
Old Colorado City
Describe the cultural climate in Colorado Springs. Divided. It's a whole different world from one side of the city to the other. One side is into all new stuff. The other side is into artistic and historic things.
What would move this town closer to your ideal? b> More civility, people caring more about each other's welfare. The bigger we get, the less awareness we have of each other.
What's best about living here? It's the most outdoorsy city I've seen. You don't find that nearly as much in Pueblo or Denver.
What's the biggest downside? It's bigger than I like, but it's expanding in ways that look nice.
What's the best place you've lived? Japan. There are so many cultures living in harmony. People are considerate of each other. You can walk the streets at night and be totally safe.
What's the cultural climate of Colorado Springs? Lacking. They're trying to get more in, what with the downtown sculptures and all, but there's still not much compared to other towns our size.
What would make for a more ideal Colorado Springs? More funding for the school districts and colleges. Attract better teachers. Also, do a lot more to encourage the independent arts scene -- music, films, art.
What's the best thing we have going for us? It's nice to be near the mountains and have a lot of open space.
What's the major thumbs down? The heavy concentration of narrow-minded religious people forcing their beliefs on others and telling people of different lifestyles that God hates them.
What's the best place you've lived? I've lived here all my life. I've visited places around the country, but I haven't seen anything to make me favor them over here.
