Noise-popsters Cherry Glazerr coming to Fox Theatre

You can often tell a lot about a band by the music they listen to, but not necessarily everything. When L.A.’s mostly female Cherry Glazerr recorded an episode of Amoeba Records’ show-and-tell “What’s in My Bag” series, the trio spoke rapturously about snagging albums by vintage artists ranging from vintage rockers like the Stones and the Stooges to ‘60s chanteuses Françoise Hardy and Joni Mitchell. They also frothed over more recent recordings by Ariel Pink, Devendra Banhart and Black Moth Super Rainbow, none of whom are shy about wearing their psych-pop inspirations on their sleeve.

Earlier this year, Cherry Glazerr released their third album, Apocalipstick, on Secretly Canadian Records. Produced by Joe Chiccarelli and Carlos de la Garza — who together helmed the most recent album by fellow L.A. girl group Bleached — the new collection finds frontwoman Clementine Creevy moving on from her teen homages to grilled-cheese sandwiches and pizza delivery guys toward less cheery subjects like sipping poison and lucid dreams. Onstage, she’s also leaning toward noisier guitar riffs, which, with the recent addition of Sasami Ashworth’s minimalist synth lines, adds up to a beguiling mix of Breeders-style alt-rock and off-kilter dream-pop.
