National Park Service's 100th Birthday

When: Thu., Aug. 25 2016

Let me guess, you love the outdoors. It probably comes with living in Colorado — I mean, just look around — but our infatuation with Mother Nature is a country-wide phenomenon. The National Park Service, arguably America's greatest land conservation effort, is celebrating 100 years today, and we're joining in by having our outdoorsman Hiking Bob take the helm of the Indy's social media channels for a weekend-long trip through Colorado's National Park areas. This wanderlust-driven adventure stretches from Rocky Mountain National Park to Capulin Volcano in northeastern New Mexico, with Florissant Fossil Beds and the Sand Dunes in between. So whether you're already basking in National Park glory with free admission to parks nationwide, need help planning to do so or just want to experience the weekend vicariously through one of the Springs' most recognizable trail geeks, follow along at @csindependent (Instagram and Twitter), @HikingBob (Twitter) and @hikingbob_co (Instagram) all weekend. Whatever you do, make sure you don't take this beautiful land for granted this weekend — as Bob says, "Happy trails!" Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 25-28, tweet and tag us in your outdoor photos and use the hashtag #CONPS100 on Instagram and Twitter, contact @csindependent and @hikingbob for more details. — Craig Lemley
