No name, all style
Meet "Colorado's first seasonal brewery," in owner/brewer Keith Altemose's words: Nano 108 Brewing Company (2402 Waynoka Road, 596-2337).
To avoid confusion with every brewery out there that makes seasonal releases on top of a flagship lineup, Altemose explains that Nano 108 has "zero mainline beers," and brews a constantly rotating selection of releases that aren't even named. Instead, an electronic beer board simply displays the respective beer style and educational info.
"Yeah, it's nifty if you came in for Pliny the Elder, but you really came in for a double IPA," he says. "You came for a style, not a name ... I'm telling a story through ingredients and seasons."
At Nano 108, you'll be coming for 18 house taps (two devoted to root beer and cream soda) of pico batches (from five to 30 gallons), nano brews (from one to three barrels) and maybe the occasional larger-batch item based on demand. Altemose uses local ingredients where possible — Western Slope fruits for his field beers, Colorado-grown hops and malt — and he boasts of a wide diversity of capabilities, from an 18-percent-ABV barleywine aged in a tawny port barrel to tequila- and bourbon-barrel-aged goodies and sessionable ales.
Altemose, 42, has home brewed for 20 years. But he also comes from a corporate background in which he says he helped open more than 30 restaurants, such as locations for Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery and the Fox and Hound Bar & Grill, and learned everything from brewhouse management to all staffing and paperwork necessities. He's actually held occupancy for Nano 108 since September 2010, and spent years quietly tinkering out there near Powers and Constitution before finally opening last week.
He's outfitted the space with top-of-the-line brew equipment and a custom-built taproom sporting cool barrel-stave chairs and growler light fixtures. Current hours span Wednesdays through Sundays only, with food trucks such as Za pizza and Piglatin parking on-site for eating options.

• Sacred Grounds Café recently changed ownership to become Sacred Grounds Coffee in the Canyon (1801 Cheyenne Blvd., 475-0888) under business partners Cecil Horlbeck and Natasha Shnapper. Though nothing on the "evolving" breakfast and lunch menu really gives away Shnapper's Russian heritage (but for a borscht soup special), it is a whole new list of homemade goods using natural and organic ingredients.
