From the Moody Blues to Grizzly Bear, rock bands have performed with symphony orchestras for ages. But the idea of tribute bands going orchestral could scarcely have been imagined back when Elektra Records was still adding "In The Regal Sense" to Queen's promo materials in order to avoid any drag-queen connotations. Four decades later, no one would be surprised by Freddie Mercury's flamboyance, or, for that matter, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic's Music of Queen tribute at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave, As with 2012's Led Zeppelin tribute and next season's Music of the Who concert, rock bands and orchestral arrangements are provided by Windborne Music, a production company that works with orchestras nationwide. "The band stays as close to the original as possible," promises the agency's website, "while the orchestra soars through the tunes and adds that extra 'something' that makes Windborne's shows special."
