Mozart 40

When: Jan. 18-19 2014

In 2009, NPR's Ted Libbey said that when it comes to conveying "extraordinary turbulence and passion," Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor "stands alone — not only among Mozart's works, but among all the symphonic works of the 18th century." So if things have been going just a little too smoothly to start 2014, consider dropping in for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic's Mozart 40 performance at 2:30 today (following yesterday's 8 p.m. performance) at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave.,, $19-$61). Conductor Matthias Bamert will ensure you'll be better for it. Or maybe slightly worse. Either way, you'll be shaken out of that winter slumber. — Kirk Woundy
