Mountain Mama's Natural Foods' offerings need to be highlighted

Mountain Mama has been around since 1979. They’ve served food from a deli counter since 1988. And they expanded into a neighboring chiropractic office, adding café-style seating “around 3 years ago,” according to an employee. That we’ve failed to spotlight the quality of food coming over that counter is an omission we’re happy to remedy.

We double down on artichoke, getting the on-special artichoke burger and the artichoke chicken panini, both $8.75. The latter comes with chicken, spinach, caramelized onions, artichoke cream cheese, and tomato, all on sourdough. We ditch the tomato for allergy reasons, but a dash or two of table-side hot sauce compensates for lost acidity. Everything’s in balance, and that cream cheese packs a stunning garlic punch. The artichoke burger anchors on a soft, creamy veg patty that doesn’t pretend to be meat. With spinach, tomato and plentiful caramelized onion, it’s a treat on a tender bun.
