Montague's needs no tampering from new owners

Montague’s is now owned by the Capulets — specifically, Capulets, Inc., which consists of John Paul Cerezo, Patricia Burke and Sloane and Greg Wooldridge. They took over the long-standing Springs teahouse two weeks ago. But we’re told that few changes are planned for the spot. That’s good news — the selection of house-made baked goods displayed on the counter is plenty tempting and needs no tampering.

We’re deeply tempted by a multi-layer chocolate and orange cake, but we’re advised to try a blueberry scone ($3.25) instead. It’s rich and crumbly, full of plump blueberries. Definitely go for the offered house lemon curd, served in a tiny jar. Though creamy and floral, it’s decidedly acidic, a fine counterpoint to the scone on many levels. While pairing this bite with coffee would do fine, we opt for a pot of Earl Grey tea ($2.95), brewed beautifully and served with milk.
