Meanderings in Mortality

When: Oct. 17-Nov. 17 2014

Ever been to Wingate, Texas? Rather, State Highway 153? If you find yourself there, I recommend a stop at the town cemetery, where you can find dozens of graves adorned with sculpted lambs — the graves of children. Heart-rending for sure, but also supremely peaceful, this place. The four women of Meanderings in Mortality, now on display at Commonwheel Artists Co-op (102 Cañon Ave., Manitou Springs, commonwheel.com) study sense of place, and the role of death in our society, through mixed media, photography and hairwork (a Victorian art form). You can catch the show today, but the 5 p.m. opening reception Friday coincides with Manitou's town-wide Third Friday Art Walk. Either way, it's up through Nov. 17. — Edie Adelstein
