Drake Power Plant's operating permit renewal process will include public comment at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Centennial Hall, 200 S. Cascade Ave., hosted by the state Air Quality Control Commission. The commission will speak to general air quality matters for the region at 6:15 p.m.
The hearing was requested by WildEarth Guardians, an environmental group that sued Colorado Springs Utilities in 2017. WildEarth has filed at least 60 lawsuits since 2009 in federal court in Denver against various entities. The lawsuit alleged Drake exceeded regulatory limits on harmful emissions. The lawsuit will be settled and a dismissal filed by April 6, according to court documents. Utilities Board Vice Chair Andy Pico acknowledged a settlement is pending.
