Mark Yakich Reading

When: 2009

In a recent interview, poet Mark Yakich said he didn't even like to read until his late 20s, when, as a friendless ex-pat in Brussels, Belgium, he found poetry books a good stand-in for companionship. It's a good thing he was so lonely because all that reading poetry led to writing poetry. The next thing Yakich knew, he was being published and praised, eventually winning the 2003 National Poetry Series. Yakich will be reading from 7 to 9 tonight in room 302 of UCCS' University Center (1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy., 338-9772). Check it out and imagine what the world might be missing had this guy made a friend or two in Belgium. — Rhiannon Conley
