WHAT'S IN A NAME

The main ingredient in Mango's Fan Django's music is, of course, Django Reinhardt, the artist who's most famously associated with the gypsy jazz genre. While guitarist and singer Archtop Eddy has dabbled in reggae through the years — that was him hanging out with Jamaican legends The Mighty Diamonds during their soundcheck at Spice Island Grill — Mango Fan Django remains his main musical love, which the group makes obvious during its frequent local performances.

TAKE FIVE

With five straight Indy Music Awards under their collective belts, frontman Eddy, guitarist Stefan Doucette, bassist Brian Hofflander, and relative newcomer violinist David Siegel have put out three albums to date. All are steeped in a style of music that has since seeped — albeit in a more diluted form — into the current indie-folk realm. Ultimately, Mango's appeal boils down to its intricate arrangements, distinctly percussive acoustic guitar, and elements of swing, which they combine with an abiding respect for their music's original source.

Second place: Colorado Springs Big Jazz Band

Third place: Moonhoney
