Lyle Lovett & His Large Band

When: Mon., July 27 2015

He's still got the big band, if not the big hair, and he's still a pretty big deal. In fact, after tonight's return visit to the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave., 799-4139), Lyle Lovett & His Large Band will be heading up north to headline Red Rocks, no small feat for a skillfully offbeat artist who scored his only Top 10 country single ("Cowboy Man") in 1986 and his last gold record (the all-covers Step Inside This House) in 1998. Like many artists from his era, the Texas alt-country pioneer focuses more on touring these days than recording. But his dry humor is still sharp — Lovett named the final album of his Curb Records contract Release Me — and his fanbase is as loyal as ever. Showtime is 8 p.m., tickets are $36.50 and up. — Bill Forman
