Long Story Short

Two weeks ago, as Indy photographer Brienne Boortz and I conducted a photo shoot for this week's cover story ("Represent," starting on page 16), something happened.

The members of the local hip-hop community realized they were going to have to change. And for the better.

As the 40-plus people standing on the steps of City Hall that afternoon posed for our pictures, you could see them realizing their own potential. You could see them understanding that their whole was greater than their parts. You could see them wanting a better, brighter future for their community.

And it looked freakin' dope on camera.

It's not the only scene looking good right now, either. In this issue, our annual Fall Arts Guide, we'll show you just how much you to have to look forward to in the coming months: Culture editor Matthew Schniper sheds light on Broadway's big premiere in Colorado Springs (page 32); contributing writer Colin Stroud delves into the true meaning of medal (page 26) and arts contributor Frances Gomeztagle gets creative with the local DIY art set (page 22).

So get cracking. And support the local scene while you're at it.
