Daughter of Judy, ex girlfriend of Marty (Scorsese) Desi (Arnaz, Jr.) and Peter (Sellers), Liza Minelli exists in the netherworld between international super celebrity and perennial has-been. However, Ms. Minelli's star power was never less in doubt than at her fourth wedding last March where her respective maid of honor and best man were none other than Elizabeth Taylor and Michael -- don't drop that baby! -- Jackson. Oh, and Gloria Gaynor sang "I Will Survive" at the reception.
Oscar, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Liza's won them all. Of course when you're the byproduct of two Oscar-winning parents (Judy Garland and director Vincent Minelli), it's only natural. The role she's perhaps best known for was her 1972 Academy Award-winning portrayal of Fralein Sally Bowles in Bob Fosse's Cabaret. She's also won several Tony's (Flora the Red Menace and The Act) an Emmy (Liza with a Z) and an honorary Grammy. She's been a regular at New York's elite Studio 54, toured with the likes of Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra, and appeared on both The Muppet Show and The Muppets Take Manhattan. Liza's played the Betty Ford clinic so to speak. What hasn't this woman done?
You guessed it, headlined no opening act, just an orchestra at the Colorado Springs World Arena.
Liza, of course, has made a splash in recent months due to the cancellation of her reality show that was to be VH1's answer to The Osbournes. Liza and husband David Gest claimed the producers were too "intrusive," and wished only to make her look stupid. Producers claimed Minelli and Gest were "uncooperative."
Well, it's nothing a $13 million lawsuit won't settle. In the meantime, head on down to the World Arena where Liza's troubles will no doubt translate into a heartfelt performance.
