Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys

When: Wed., July 25, 7:30 p.m. 2012

Listen to "My Side of the Mountain" by Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, and you could be forgiven for assuming it's some traditional tune that never found its way onto the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. But the song was actually written by frontwoman Lindsay Lou Petroff Rilko and mandolin player Josh Rilko, whose shared vocals beautifully convey its blue-collar worries. The young Lansing, Mich., band is definitely off to a good start, even if, by bluegrass performance standards, their soloing skills may still be a bit rudimentary. From tradition-steeped roots music to more indie-folk offerings, expect an engaging and maybe even inspired performance when the band rolls into Front Range Barbeque (2330 W. Colorado Ave., tonight. Showtime is 7:30, with a $5 cover. — Bill Forman
