L.A. Guns

When: Tue., June 23, 8 p.m. 2009

Back in the '80s, Tracii Guns and Axl Rose started a short-lived version of Guns N' Roses (N' was never officially in the band), but the guitarist was long gone by the time GN'R got famous. His more punkish L.A. Guns subsequently managed to go through a couple thousand lineup changes, one hit — "The Ballad of Jayne" — and decades of slogging it out in clubs instead of arenas. This may or may not have been better than becoming a recluse, spending 15 years on a commercially and critically disappointing album, and then having a really goofy feud with Dr Pepper. In any event, it's Guns' band that's playing SoDo (527 S. Tejon St., sodonightlife.com) at 8 tonight for 15 bucks. — Bill Forman
