Kill Devil Hill, The Brontide Effect, Inelements, Sanguine Addiction

When: Wed., May 14, 7 p.m. 2014

Supergroups like the Foo Fighters and Dead Weather don't come along every day. But Metal Underground assures us that Kill Devil Hill's "Southern-fried grooves" and "sludgy Sabbath stomp" reflect its stature as a "supergroup in the truest sense of the word." And yes, founding drummer Vinny Appice was in Black Sabbath, while bassist Rex Brown hails from Pantera. But Appice quit in March, and frontman Dewey Bragg's main claim to fame is a one-album stint in the lesser-known Pissing Razors. Will those Southern grooves and sludgy stomps compensate for all that? You can find out tonight for $14 at the Black Sheep (2106 E. Platte Ave., blacksheeprocks). Doors open at 7 p.m., with Sanguine Addiction, the Brontide Effect and Inelements doing opening honors. — Bill Forman
