Dear Mrs. Clark:

I need help -- perhaps more help than you, your organization and your poodles can provide.

For quite some time now I have wanted a poodle. However, I am not a mans man. I possess no strong opinions on cars or the NFL, I have never smoked a cigar and though I can lift certain heavy objects, I cannot fix them. Sadly, I care what other people think. Poodles are not manly dogs; most cats are more virile. Poodle ownership, I fear, will feminize me beyond the pale of the social parameters in which I live.

Being a prominent member of the poodle community, I thought you might be able to put me in touch with men facing a similar dilemma. Im sure theres not a support group, but perhaps you are aware of an owner who has successfully grappled with this issue. I reckon I only need a firm kick in the butt, a good pre-poodle pep talk -- but from a man.

If I had my druthers, I would casually pepper poodles in tobacco ads and beer commercials, perhaps convince several professional athletes to own one or two. But if I had this kind of clout, I would not be writing this letter.

Any advice you might offer would be tremendously appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kenneth H. Cleaver
