Kaiser Cartel

When: Thu., July 22, 9 p.m. 2010

Few people see the connection between New York indie-pop duo Kaiser Cartel and venerable California metallions Y&T, and that's because there really is none. Unless, that is, you consider the fact that they're both playing downtown's southern side tonight. For $10, you can gaze wistfully at Courtney Kaiser and Benjamin Cartel as they bring their intimate sounds to the no-less-intimate Shuga's (9 p.m., 702 S. Cascade Ave.). Or, for just $5 more, you can play air guitar along with Dave Meniketti's hirsute Y&T, who rocked harder and melted more faces than all other '80s hair bands combined, while looking every bit as ridiculous. Showtime is 8 p.m. at SoDo (527 S. Tejon St., All I can ask is that you look deep into your soul and choose wisely. — Bill Forman
