On July 19, Julie Ott announced her candidacy for the Colorado Springs District 11 Board of Education. A 22-year resident of the district, she has one son who graduated from Coronado High School and one who's currently a junior. Ott has volunteered at her children's schools since their preschool days. She now serves on Coronado High School's Parent Teacher Association and School Accountability Committee.
Notable in the "vision" section of her campaign website is a call for mental health services to be available to younger students; "reasonable workloads and decent pay" for teachers; and a balanced approach to district spending.
Sitting board member Shawn Gullixson and Palmer High School class of 2000 graduate Efrem Harris have both filed their candidacy for D-11 school board with the Secretary of State's office. At press time, Ott doesn't appear to have filed.
