Juanes

When: Wed., March 23 2011

Let's face it: Latin music sounds best when it's sung in Spanish. And it sound even better when it's sung by Juanes, who's attained crossover success without abandoning his native tongue. In fact, he'd be Colombia's biggest legal export if it weren't for Shakira, who barely edged him out of the top spot on Latin charts when his extraordinary P.A.R.C.E. album came out this past December. Like a more universally accessible Caetano Veloso or a less drugged-out Manu Chao, Juanes mixes elements of rock, pop, reggae and tropicalia in a way that's emotionally resonant and musically engaging. Tonight, he plays a 16-plus show at the Fillmore Auditorium (1510 Clarkson St., Denver, livenation.com) at 7:30, for $47.50 in advance or $50 at the door. — Bill Forman
