Joe Moss

When: Thu., July 16, 8 p.m. 2009

Like Oakland's Joe Louis Walker, Chicago's Joe Moss mixes his blues with liberal doses of R&B, and the results are eminently satisfying. In addition to its frontman's strong singing, writing and guitar playing, the Joe Moss Band features a Hammond-soaked sound that calls to mind the funkier side of British blues-rock as practiced by the likes of Derek & the Dominoes and Free (whose "Fire and Water" Moss covers on his band's most recent album). Catch them for free tonight at SouthSide Johnny's (528 S. Tejon St., southsidejohnnys.biz), and you can thank us afterward. — Bill Forman
