Japanese New Year's "Mochitsuki" (Rice Cake Pounding) Event

When: Dec. 23-Jan. 20 2010

a traditional Japanese celebration featuring a 150-pound mortar filled with rice, which is ritually pounded and sliced into cakes to eat for the longevity and prosperity in the new year. Condiments and hot tea will be served with the cakes. RSVP to or 266-5625 by Jan. 20 to join in on the event happening from 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 23.
