Japanese Cultural Festival and Bazaar

When: Sat., Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. 2009

The first time I was in Japan, I visited a museum that to my understanding, boasted the world's largest taiko drums. These were instruments so large, an average person could probably lay across the middle of one, arms overhead, and still not touch two rims. Sadly, they probably will not make an appearance from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Japanese Cultural Festival and Bazaar at Stargazers Theatre & Event Center (10 S. Parkside Drive, jassc.org). But the festival does promise traditional dance, music and martial arts demos and shopping for foods and crafts, among other activities. And it's all free. — Matthew Schniper
