J Roddy Walston And The Business

When: Mon., Sept. 30, 9 p.m. 2013

J Roddy Walston once griped about promoters providing keyboards instead of his instrument of choice. "I don't play keyboards, I play piano," he said. "It's not like you'll tell a guitar player to play a keytar." Pounding the keys with Little Richard-style abandon, the Baltimore native and his band The Business perform with an energy that sometimes suggests a more rock-centric version of Bob Seger or Bruce Springsteen. Catch them at the hi-dive (7 S. Broadway, Denver, at 9:30 tonight for $12. An added incentive is Atlanta's Gringo Star, a Kinks-influenced band that took no prisoners the last time they came to the Triple Nickel. — Bill Forman
