Downtown Colorado Springs has small-town charm with a beautiful backdrop, but there's little to do besides visit nightclubs, bars and restaurants. Some believe a new headquarters for the U.S. Olympic Committee could inject some life into the area.

What's best and worst about downtown? I like the street festivals. I hate the new parking meters.
There's talk of mini-skyscrapers downtown. How does that sit with you? A few would be OK, but only if they don't block the view of the mountains.
Would you describe our downtown as dull, fun, interesting or fill-in-the-blank? It's dull. There's not much to do if you're not a bar guy. I'm not much of a shopper, either.
Gold Crown/Mesa area
What would bring you to downtown more? I already go all the time. The only places I hang out, really, are downtown, Old Colorado City and Manitou.
Is there a downtown trend you dislike? All the fighting in the clubs.
Name a city with a cool downtown. I like the way the downtowns in Denver and Fort Collins block streets off for pedestrians, and how they preserve the old buildings and the cobblestone and brick streets.
What draws you downtown? Nothing much downtown grabs me. The Uncle Wilber Fountain is good.
Name a downside to downtown. The brawls in the nightclubs and transients hanging out in the park.
Would you characterize our downtown as dull, fun, interesting or ...? Not dull, really, but there's no real attraction, either. It's fun to walk through once or twice a year.
What would entice you downtown? More child- friendly activities.
Is there a trend you like or dislike? I don't like turning Tejon into a two-way.
What city has a good downtown? I like towns like Santa Barbara and Santa Fe that maintain a non- commercial integrity to the downtown area.
Rate our downtown. Things like Springs Spree and the Uncle Wilber Fountain make it fun in summer. It's less fun in the winter, but the people-watching is always interesting.
