Nonprofit approach to life
Colorado Springs is one of the nonprofit hotbeds of the U.S., and studies have found Springsians to be a generous bunch. What comes to mind when you think about giving to those in need?
Have you ever given to a charity? Planned Parenthood, Amnesty International. I also give locally to the Trails [& Open Space] Coalition.
If you could donate a thousand bucks to a nonprofit, what would it be? Planned Parenthood. Population growth is a big problem, and women should have a say in how many children they have and when.
Have you benefited from a charity? I benefit indirectly all the time. It makes me feel better to know that people in the community who need food and lodging, get it. Also, I use trails and open space a lot.
Name three local nonprofits. Palmer Foundation. United Way. Care and Share.
Have you ever supported a charity? We give to Compassion [International] to support a bunch of kids. We give to our church, to a couple political-action causes, and to people in need in our neighborhood.
If you had a thousand dollars to donate, who would get it? I'd give it to Heifer International, which does agricultural and animal husbandry development in Third World countries to help people get trades.
Have you benefited from a nonprofit? From my local church, when we've been in financial need due to medical bills.

Political science professor Do you give to charity? United Way, United Negro College Fund, and lots of women's issues and domestic violence stuff. I also just gave to the local policemen's charity.
What charity would you give a thousand bucks if you could? United Negro College Fund. Higher education is crucial, and it needs to be made possible for more people, particularly now that we're such an info- tech society.
Have you benefited from giving yourself? Money for my education, and lots of church charities helped our family when I was young.
If you could start a nonprofit, what would it be? b> I teach Chinese politics, so it would be something to get young people interested in Asia.
