Colorado Springs is often compared to Taos in terms of our strong Western light and memorable landscapes. We even have our own art museum to act as a nationally known local arts hub. Unlike Taos though, many Springs residents say our arts scene isn't what it could be. Now that the Fine Arts Center has significantly expanded, can it finally awaken us from our arts cocoon?
Do you have any favorite artists? I would have to say somewhere between Picasso and Leonardo. Mr. da Vinci.
What was the last museum you went to? The Denver Museum of [Nature and] Science. I love the gem section. That place is awesome.
Are you aware the FAC just added a $28 million expansion? No, I wasn't. But it's probably a good thing, because the world needs more art. Art influences history. Art influences the next generation. Art inspires new ideas.
Do you see it becoming an international tourist destination? That really depends on, well, advertisement, I'd suppose. But yes, I do. I think it could become a big part of tourism. Because everything else sure seems like it does.

How do you feel that the Fine Arts Center or any other art museum impacts a community? It adds character, definitely.
What was the last museum you went to? The Denver Museum of Nature and Science. That was last year, when they had [Body Worlds 2].
Is there an artist you would go to the FAC to see? b>Pablo Picasso. That'd be cool.
Between you and your parents, what was the last thing you remodeled? Our house. We did our kitchen.
Old Colorado CityWhat do you feel the new FAC will do to impact the community? It will bring some really exciting artists, some more contemporary artists to the area in terms of exhibits. And maybe liven up the whole arts scene in Colorado Springs.
What will the FAC have to do to become a tourist destination? If they bring the right artists, there would be a following for people who would come. Or if we could start getting more people to come down from Denver, the way we go up to Denver. [The FAC should bring] people with more edgier-type work, like what you would see in New York.
What was the last museum you went to? The Art Institute of Chicago this past January. [I] feel like we're in those earlier stages of that same type of thing.
