The sun finally means business, the nights are mild, the crickets are in chorus and the kids are out of school. June is the time of year for backyard burgers, T-shirts and shorts, two-bucks-a-gallon gas and stewing about whether a vacation is in the cards this year -- and if so, what?

What's your coolest vacation ever? A two-week yoga holiday with my husband in Egypt following a business trip in Israel. We also did some scuba diving, rode camels in the desert and slept overnight in a Bedouin camp.
Which would you choose: a two-week paid vacation or two weeks of work with double pay? Definitely the vacation. What better use for money than vacations?
What's on your summer must-read list? Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding, Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver, and some professional training books.
If you could send the politician of your choice anywhere in the world for two weeks, who and where would it be? I'd send Margaret Thatcher to a Third World sweatshop to work 14 hour days, seven days a week for 25 cents a day. Let her get a taste of that reality.

What's your strangest vacation ever? In college, eight of us road-tripped in two cars to Mardis Gras. It was a 25-hour drive each way and we could only spend a total of 12 hours in New Orleans.
What's your coolest vacation ever? The entire family went to the island of Roatn in Honduras for a week of scuba diving the week before I went off to college.
What will your vacation be this summer? Learning French in Geneva, Switzerland.
What's on your summer must-read list? Moby Dick. Beyond that, a lot of philosophy.
If you could send the politician of your choice anywhere in the world for two weeks, who and where would it be? I'd send President Bush to the moon. He'd work at a lousy job for lousy pay and learn firsthand what that's like. He doesn't have the first clue.

What's your coolest vacation ever? I house-sat for a rich cousin in Phoenix -- this very fancy house in this very fancy neighborhood. I could get used to that.
If you could take any vacation you want, what would it be? I'd go camping in the mountains and do nothing but read all day and live totally off the land for two weeks.
What's on your summer must-read list? I love organized crime novels. I've read all of Mario Puzo, so this summer I'm going to read The Corsican by William Heffernan and Gangster by Lorenzo Carcaterra.
If you could send the politician of your choice anywhere in the world for two weeks, who and where would it be? I'd send Clinton to Miami for two weeks of nonstop partying on the beach. I'd go, too, and we'd party together.
