We understand the time-honored tradition of creating physical monuments to honor the achievements of the deceased, in this case, along Pikes Peak Avenue downtown. These rich white men, in their time, made contributions to Colorado Springs. But why only the white guys? Why not commit a statue to honor Fannie Mae Duncan, owner of the famed Cotton Club who, during civil rights battles, hung a sign in her window announcing "Everyone Welcome"?

Who's the next leader we should honor with a statue? I've thought about the mayor, but she's very much alive and might object to having a bronze made of her.

What do you think of Hank the Cowboy? Well, I kind of like it. I think that it's really big and I don't really know the importance of it.
Who's the next leader we should honor with a statue? Nelson Mandela because I read his book and it was really, really good. That's the only person I can think of.

What did Stratton do? Myron Stratton was involved in mining, I believe, up in Cripple Creek.

Who was Spencer Penrose? He was this dude who, in the early 1900s, more or less helped found the city and get things running. He was just a big part of the high-class community.
