Internal Logic

When: July 1-29 2016

The new Internal Logic solo exhibit at S.P.Q.R. is an exploration of reversals. For many of her paintings, local artist (and former Indy staffer) Claire Swinford asked her model to convey a story nonverbally, using a prop. She says, "It's a deliberate reversal of the classical order of operations for making a painting, where the model is an object, the painter is God, and the viewer is a voyeur/archaeologist trying to figure out what the painter means." To help inspire conversations about the work, Swinford also has hung the graphite-on-paper studies she drew for each. Ultimately, she hopes attendees will get away from asking what the pieces are about and connect with her art on their own terms. The exhibit will be up through July 29. 5:30-10 p.m. Fridays, 17 E. Bijou St., — Griffin Swartzell
