Hugh Jackman @ The Pepsi Center, Wednesday, July 10, 7 p.m., 1000 Chopper Circle, Denver, $29.50-$225, 303/405-1100, pepsicenter.com
The tour name says it all. “Hugh Jackman: The Man. The Music. The Show.” No retractable claws. No feral sideburns. No antiheroic behavior whatsoever. Just the Tony Award-winning actor in a song-and-dance extravaganza, with full orchestral accompaniment, reprising songs from his starring roles in musicals like Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast and The Greatest Showman.
Based on recent performances, Jackman will be delivering more than two hours of time-tested showtunes like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “I Honestly Love You,” “Mack the Knife” and “Arthur’s Theme.” He’ll tap dance, he’ll tell charming anecdotes about growing up Down Under, and he’ll look extremely photogenic doing it all against a backdrop of elaborate staging and choreography.
And at every one of the 88 shows on this world tour, he’ll tell the crowd, “I hope you’re not only Wolverine fans; it could be a long night!” And they’ll all laugh, because, if that were the case, they wouldn’t be there.
