Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region launched an online "bite blotter" to track moderate-to-fatal bites from domestic animals. The blotter, which can be accessed at hsppr.org/biteblotter, includes data on the type of animal, victim age, wound information and ZIP code where the attack occurred. Personal details like names and addresses can only be requested by the involved parties.

The Humane Society encourages residents to report bites by calling Animal Law Enforcement at 302-8798, or 911 for a life-threatening emergency. Animal Law Enforcement investigated more than 1,000 animal bites in El Paso County last year, according to a statement from the Humane Society.

"Our pets are our family, but it's important to understand any cat or dog, of any breed, is capable of biting," the statement says.
