Construction worker & crane operator
Have you ever had a driving job? Years ago, I drove a truck for a construction company. You see a lot of country, but it's monotonous and stressful. You have to drive a lot of miles to make it pay.
Have you had any run-ins with truckers? I work with truckers. They're good people. You'll have a close call every now and then out on the road, though, if a semi meanders a bit, or pulls out in front of you.
Name your favorite trucking song. Willie Nelson, "On the Road Again."
What will you be doing at, say, age 76? My wife and I will never be able to retire, but we have a small acreage back in Iowa that maybe we can eke out a living on, growing vegetables.
Have you ever had a driving job? I traversed the United States seven or eight times in a car as part of a job I once had interviewing people for documentaries.
What's your longest unbroken stint at the wheel? On a motorcycle all night with my husband, from the Arctic Circle to Anchorage, Alaska, the aurora borealis screaming above our heads, only one heated vest between us.
Have you ever had an incident with a trucker? On an interstate in Denver, all of a sudden there were four vehicles side by side, one a semi, in two lanes of traffic and the exit ramp. The semi clipped my car, but the driver was nice and stopped to make sure I was OK.
What's your favorite driving song? Billy Joel, "You're My Home." It's about traveling cross-country, and wherever you go, there's your home.

Have you ever driven for a living? I used to drive a beer truck in the Lake George, Cripple Creek area. It can be long hours, tiring and boring.
What's your longest-ever stint at the wheel? Nonstop from Cleveland, Ohio, to Yellowstone National Park in a 1970 Volkswagen to start a job.
Name your favorite trucking songs. "Convoy" and "Wolf Creek Pass," both by C.W. McCall. "Radar Love" by Golden Earring is good, too.
Have you ever had a run-in with a trucker? Yes, but it was over my present wife, his old girlfriend.
