More than 60,000 passengers boarded the Garden of the Gods free shuttles between May 26 and Sept. 2, the city reported on Oct. 5 in a release. Most people boarded at the Visitor & Nature Center, while the most popular exit point was the intersection of Gateway Road and Juniper Way Loop.

The pilot project also collected 186 responses via text survey from shuttle users, 84 percent of which rated the experience a four or five, with five being the best.

Temporary overflow parking was steered to a lot near Rock Ledge Ranch, where nearly 27,000 vehicles parked, averaging more than 600 on Saturdays alone.

Visitor numbers at the Visitor & Nature Center, owned and operated by the Garden of the Gods Foundation, could set a new record this year. Last year, 1.2 million visitors were counted, compared to 1,071,781 through Sept. 30 this year.

Continuing the shuttle service next year is under study.
