- Eight of nine gates have been installed to keep motorists off Ridge Road when the park is closed.
The city began closing the Ridge Road gate to Garden of the Gods park on Sept. 7 to prevent illegal, after-hours vehicle traffic and activity within the park. Eight of nine gates are now in place, with the final gate at the main entrance on Gateway Road to be installed by mid- to late-September.
The park is free and open daily between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. from May 1 to Oct. 31, and 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Nov. 1 to April 30.
On Sunday, Oct. 7, the city will host a "Motorless Morning" at the Garden, meaning no motor vehicles will be allowed from 5 a.m. until noon. The first such event was held on Earth Day, April 22.
