Gang Gang Dance, Kazuashita (4AD) – When Lizzi Bougatsos brings her reconstituted GGD ensemble to Denver on July 28, some may be surprised to hear the NYC experimentalists offering a more gentle sound appropriate for anime soundtracks. Yet Kazuashita’s 10 tracks represent a continuation of the eclectic, evolving sound that the band favored even before its seven-year hiatus — with just a touch more chill.

Bodega, Endless Scroll (What’s Your Rupture) – Because these Brooklyn neophytes received production assistance from Parquet Courts, and because singer Ben Hozie sounds like Andy Savage, it’s easy to pigeonhole this group as “Baby Parquet.” But the theatrics, the dual-gender harmonies and the relentless bass lines put the band closer to Shopping or Pink Section.
