Friends House Concerts

When: Jan. 2-Feb. 28 2015

Unlike the many singer-songwriters who rely on live-looping as a crutch to compensate for minimal guitar skills, Willie Porter was already drawing comparisons to masterful musicians like Leo Kottke back when he was still helping to pioneer the technique onstage. The Wisconsin-based road warrior is also gifted with an appealing baritone and songwriting that can be as wry as Richard Thompson's or as moving as Freedy Johnston's. (Check out the lyrics to "Unconditional Love" for proof of the latter.) He'll be a perfect match for the Friends House Concerts, which take place in an intimate setting with acoustics that can match just about any venue in town. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., tickets are $30, and you'll find the rest of the information you need at — Bill Forman
