A freak hailstorm Aug. 6 caused an estimated $172.8 million in damage to cars and property in the Colorado Springs area, the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association said in an Aug. 15 release.
Auto- and home-owners filed 27,000 claims. Of those, 21,000 were car insurance claims, adding up to more than $126.3 million, and 6,000 were property insurance claims worth $46.5 million. This storm comes on the heels of a June 13 weather event that caused nearly as much damage, with $169 million in total insured losses.
