Its History Now by Pat Williams
On Saturday afternoon, Williams ended up at the convergence of Cascade and Pikes Peak avenues, where Colorado Springs founder Gen. William Jackson Palmer officially solemnized his city.
Pat Williams, incidentally, is a docent at the Pioneers Museum and was drawn to this park bench on that city corner two blocks away, where she spied its sole occupant, a discarded newspaper.
Before she even started shooting, Williams had already titled the photo, honoring its different layers of meaning: The paper is old, history, she said. There could have been people reading it, but theyre gone, the bench is empty. And, thats the spot where General Palmer drove the first stake for the town.
