Flamenco Workshop

When: Tue., June 30, 7:30-9 p.m. 2009

Flamenco usually conjures images of passionate lovers seducing one another with displays of fancy footwork. Well, it does for me anyway. Perhaps crude assumptions like mine are exactly what Colorado College hopes to dispel with its two flamenco-themed events tonight and Wednesday. First, the Flamenco Workshop, at 7:30 tonight in Cossitt Hall (906 N. Cascade Ave.), will coach participants on the technical aspects of the dance. Then at 7 tomorrow, Maria Vazquez will host a performance and lecture in Cornerstone Arts Center (825 N. Cascade Ave.) on the origins and cultural significance of the dance style. Leave it to academia to intellectualize something sexy. Tickets for the workshop are $10, $5 for the lecture. Both are available at their respective doors. — Virginia Leise
