The media insists our economy is thriving. Do you share that optimism? I have a house that's been on the market for a year, and still is. I don't see so rosy a future. There's a lot of debt out there, with people living on credit.
Is Colorado Springs vulnerable? It's very dependent on the military. There's little or no industry.
What advice would you give to a college student in this regard? Go into some aspect of the medical field. It's booming.
Describe the future of our economy. It's great for anyone with a lot of credit. Everyone else is screwed.
What's your advice to today's college student? You'll have a lot more economic opportunities and advantages if you move away from Colorado Springs.
What's driving our economy? Credit cards. Our economy would collapse without them. People use them for everything from gasoline to groceries. Buy now, pay for it later. Who needs cash?
Is our economic future more rosy or bleak? I'm in a very sweet spot in the economy. I supply lighting to new homes and businesses throughout the state. My sense is that it's not so great overall, though.
What advice would you give a current college student? I tell my son in college that the day of the small businessman and entrepreneurial spirit is past. Like it or not, the future belongs to corporate America.
What economic problem should the state Legislature tackle? Urban sprawl. We need to regulate growth better.
