Michael De Marsche, president and chief executive officer of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center for the past four years, announced his resignation Thursday just a week after opening the FACs ambitious new expansion to accept a position in Yerevan, Armenia.

It is with the greatest pleasure that I announce my appointment as the new executive director of the Cafesjian Museum Foundation, DeMarsche said in a letter to the FAC board, dated Aug. 9. His resignation is effective Sept. 1.

De Marsche said in his letter he had been contacted several weeks ago by Gerard Cafesjian, who is building an arts complex in Armenia to house his personal art collection.

The complex, De Marsche added in his letter, also will host international traveling exhibitions. and is certain to become one of the great museums in Europe.

Yerevan, a city of 1 million people, is the capital of Armenia, which shares borders with Turkey and Iran, among other East European nations.

Carol Kleiner and Sally Hybl, chair and co-chair of the FAC board, issued a statement saying, We are grateful for the vision and charisma that Dr. Michael De Marsche brought to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center during his tenure.

The FAC release said the organization immediately will begin a national search for a replacement.
