Memphis legend Steve Cropper didn’t sing in Booker T. & The MG’s — no one did, actually — but his performance on seminal ‘60s instrumentals like “Green Onions” and “Time Is Tight” established the Stax session guitarist as an eminently soulful sideman, songwriter and producer. Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond, Dave Mason spent the latter half of the decade playing a decidedly more anglicized take on R&B — with folk and psychedelic undercurrents — in the band Traffic, before going on to score hit singles of his own with “Only You Know and I Know” and “We Just Disagree.” Rather than tour on the same bill with separate bands, the two musicians decided to combine forces as Dave Mason and Steve Cropper’s Rock & Soul Revue. Fans can expect to hear all of the above hits, as well as masterful renditions of classics like “Dock of the Bay,” which Cropper co-wrote with Otis Redding, as well as Traffic tunes like “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Feelin’ Alright.”
