Dan Hicks

When: Wed., Aug. 4 2010

From his early classic "I Scare Myself" to a catalog of mutant western swing, Dan Hicks is a legendary artist among fans and musical cognoscenti (who, in his case, overlap quite a bit). Lauded by Elvis Costello for coming up with a couple of the "best songs ever written," Hicks has an appropriately named new album, Tangled Tales, which features a number of folk/blues heavyweights, including mandolin hero David Grisman, slide guitarist Roy Rogers, and this year's Blues Under the Bridge headliner Charlie Musselwhite. Hicks will get all intimate with those of you who are 21-plus, at 8 this evening at the Soiled Dove Underground (7401 E. First Ave., Denver, for a reasonably reasonable $20 to $30. — Bill Forman
