Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

When: Tue., Sept. 6 2011

Sure, they could have called themselves Dale Earnhardt III, but Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr has a certain ring to it. As does the music of Daniel Zott and Josh Epstein, who've been garnering significant critical attention in their short two years together. The Detroit duo's sweet pop originals draw lightly upon the sandbox harmonies of Brian Wilson and his Beach Boys brethren, and you can check out 40 minutes' worth online, courtesy of their recent in-studio performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. You can also see them, accompanied by percussionist David Vaughn, at 9 tonight in the indie-rock intimacy of the hi-dive (7 S. Broadway, Denver,, 18-plus) for an altogether reasonable $12. — Bill Forman
