  • Cryptic Wisdom will be making fans smarter when his Spread Wisdom tour comes to Sunshine Studios Saturday.

Tucson-based emcee Cryptic Wisdom will be bringing his Spread Wisdom Tour with DJ Michael Foxx to Sunshine Studios on Saturday, Sept. 2. Joining Cryptic Wisdom, whose style has been described as a mix of “grungy alternative rock and poetic hip-hop,” are J Knack, ColorBlind, Solo Entertainment and Legacy.

Meanwhile, local indie-rock favorite Dear Rabbit, the vehicle of singer-songwriter Rence Liam, will be making a welcome return to the Zodiac on Friday, Sept. 1, following yet another U.S. tour. Also performing that night are Iowa-based “electronic spacepop” act Cubits, local indie duo Shook’s Run and the Katey Sleeveless power trio.

Finally, an item of interest for those devotees of Phish and the Grateful Dead. (And, oh, I know there are plenty of you out there.) The Boulder-based quartet DeadPhish Orchestra, who, if it wasn’t immediately apparent, specialize in even more jammed-out renditions of the two archetypal American jam bands, will be making their first trip to Colorado Springs with a show at Stargazers Theatre on Friday, Sept. 8.

Given the enormous combined repertoire of the two bands, and how active a role live improvisation played in their styles, it’s safe to assume most of DeadPhish Orchestra’s sets will vary from night to night. So if this is your sort of thing, you’ll probably want to catch the show live. Plus, the band will also be performing in Denver at the Sunnyside Music Festival the following day, Sept. 9, just in case you want to set up a makeshift town and follow them around.

Here are some more notable shows taking place across Colorado in the weeks ahead:
